Careers that Pay Big Without a Degree

There are countless highly successful people in the world that didn’t earn a college degree. In fact, some of the wealthiest Americans built their fortunes sans a stop at the local university. Micheal Dell, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are all tech industry phenoms that skipped the college and university path. Even if you aren’t into computers, you can still find a great paying job without having to hit the books.

Commercial Pilots

While this may make you think twice about the man or woman behind the cockpit door, don’t be alarmed. Just because they don’t have to have a traditional college degree doesn’t mean they aren’t highly skilled in their craft. Pilots must be at least 18, hold a private pilot’s license and be able to communicate, read and write in English. Additionally, they must log hundreds of hours in the air and pass a written test. 

Air-traffic Controllers

Sticking with the aviation field, air traffic controllers are also high paid individuals who are not required to have a college degree. This job is not for the faint of heart, though. Air-traffic controllers go through extensive on the job training and must be alert and attentive at all times. Air-traffic controllers enjoy a high income but endure high pressure and high stress.

Real Estate Brokers

Working in real estate is a great option for someone who is a driven people person, but dislikes the structure of a college or university. While entering the real estate industry is pretty simple, it does take dedication and the ability to pass the state licensing exam. Successful realtors have a team of colleagues who didn’t have to attend college either. Whether we are talking about the Top Mortgage Lender at Sun West Mortgage or the most popular home inspector in the state, neither are required to don a university diploma to be wildly successful.

Thanks to the internet and today’s digital age you can start your own business from the comfort of your own home. There are countless ways to build a service business that will make you money without a college degree. Web developers, graphic designers, freelance writers, bookkeepers, online shop owners, counselors, tutors and more can run a successful business without ever meeting their clients face to face. 

If the traditional college degree is not a fit for you and your learning style, don’t despair. Successful business women and men before you have proven that there is more than one road to success, and you don’t have to stop at a college or university along the way.
