New Savvy Ways to Make Money Selling your Old Stuff Online

New Savvy Ways to Make Money Selling your Old Stuff Online

We all have items in our home that we need to get rid of, but, unfortunately, because of time constraints, we simply toss them away without thinking about the resale opportunities.  With the right exposure and strategies, reselling your old items is now easy and convenient.

The new savvy ways to make money selling your stuff online are listed below:

1) First, create an account on Instagram that is dedicated only to selling your items, whether they are new or secondhand.  Instagram is a great online tool to market your products, business, and services.  With Instagram, every post requires an image so you can have fun finding pictures to use.

Try to keep your business account separate from your personal account.  You can talk about tips, tricks, life hacks, and anything useful or helpful.  Posting on Instagram is something that you can do anytime as long as you have access to wifi.

(If you think you are not reselling again in the coming months and years, you may skip Step 1 to 4 and proceed on to Step 5 onwards)

2) Next, using your Facebook account, join groups dedicated to selling pre-owned items in your city.  Or for a bigger prospect, join the following support group that helps to:

  1.   a) Increase the number of your followers in your Instagram
        b) Adds “Like” to the image you are posting
        c) Get more comments on images that you post
        d) Increases sharing of your items all over the internet

You also learn many things from other members that collaborate and helps answer any questions in the group.

(I’ve seen many members getting more than 5-10k of followers and are highly active to participate.  These are possible if you read and follow the basic rules of the group consistently.)

Here are the important social media groups you could join in to boost your Instagram and Facebook followers faster than you could ever imagine:

BTR – Blogger’s + Instagram Community (watch out also for its’ specific Instagram Post Thread)
  Instagram Influencers

3) Create a clear description on your Instagram account profile that includes your contact information, a direct link to your marketplace, and the website where all of your items are showcased. Don’t forget to use #hashtags.

4) Once you’ve done all of the steps above, start adding your friends, family, and previous buyers to your new Instagram account. Use it to update and post your items.

5) Download the free printable I created for you by clicking on> Things To Sell List

6) The next step is to gather and organize a list of items you plan to sell.  You probably already have items in your house that you are ready to let go of.  If you are going to resell an item that was given to you by a special family member, you may want to let them know so that they don’t see the item posted on social media first.

7) Another way to sell your old items is to join online apps that are dedicated to this service.  You can find apps on your iOs & Android.  Take the time to read the safety guidelines, as you don’t want anybody you don’t know coming directly to your home to check out your items for sale.

Depending on your location, it may be better to specify your zip code so that you are selling only to individuals in your surrounding neighborhood.

8)FEES!  Expect to pay at least 10% of an item’s selling price for some marketplace you choose – and up to 40% if you use a concierge service that takes care of listing and shipping the items for you.  Some companies allow you to do the shipping, but it’s important to clarify this with them.  Also, find out about secure transactions, mode of payment for buyers, etc…

Finally!  You have some extra money that you can save or use to pay off your debt, bills, and/or buy something for yourself.

And if you did create the Instagram account I listed at the top, you now have an amazing audient that you can expect to grow over time.  Once you sell your first item successfully, you’ll most likely want to continue!  Keep your Instagram account active and continue to post pictures of items that you want to sell.  Even if you don’t have an item to sell, you can always use the account to provide ongoing tips or messages.  Getting rid of items has never been easier!

Do you have any other marketplaces to add on the list?  Comment down below and share!
