10 Highly Effective Ways to Ace your Skype Interview

With the technological advancement come changes in the way companies are conducting their job interviews and Skype-based interviews had become increasingly popular nowadays. In other words, if you are on the lookout for a job, it isn’t always going to be the traditional face-to-face method as there’s a high chance that you’ll get asked for your instant messenger (IM) handle name as preparation is everything.

Before you even start giving out your information, you also need to make sure that you follow all these highly effective ways to ace your Skype interview.

Make sure your handle name is professional as well as your profile name. A badazz_lady or peepingjacob_4u for example is so much unacceptable.

Upload an appropriate profile picture. It must be you or your most recent picture and not your pet or a celebrity, etc.

Sit Up Straight. Make sure that your body isn’t compressed or slouching, sit up straight and it will project your voice better and it helps to sound more confident.

Keep some prompters close by. In any case you’re ask with tough questions, you have your application documents and notes right in front of you, but just make sure they can’t see them.

Choose a quiet location. Do it at the comfort of your home and in a good background, good lighting and quiet room. Your background should look professional as well. At home, you’ll have control of your environment and explain someone in the house why you need not be annoyed or to make any distracting sound. Ask or advise a friend or a family member to help you out let them understand, it simply takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Dress and groom appropriately. It is just the same thing as an in-person interview meeting. Get that fresh looking face, so shower, shave and dress to impress. Also you still have to rehearse and get into the right mindset for that position you are applying for.

Check your time zones and be on time. If you need to show up 15 minutes earlier on an in-person interview, do the same for your Skype interview. It’s best that you are the one waiting instead of the other way around. Make time to check your audio, camera and connection.

Confirm that the employer can see and hear you properly before the start of the interview.

Speak Clearly and Enunciate. Smile and send a good positive impression at all times. It is more important to articulate your words on phone or video because for some technical reason your voice might not sound the same as in-person meeting even with the best connection. Pay attention on enunciating and the tone of voice.

Do your best to look in the camera as it will look like you’re looking at the interviewer. If you look at the monitor, the interviewer will see it as you looking down. It’s the tricky part about Skype interviews, but it’s necessary.

Lastly, relax and be yourself. Interviewers are looking for cues with the way you interact and they will be able to identify personality traits that show if you are qualified to go on to the next level as a potential candidate. Have a laugh and make them like you, because they won’t necessarily remember your individual answers, they will remember how you make them feel.

If you follow all these tips, no doubt that you’ll ace that interview.
